Hi, I’m Carlie. I am a designer dedicated to delivering digital services that solve real problems for everyday people.

At Code for America I lead the design of benefits applications for states across the U.S. My recent work with Minnesota reduced application time by 75% and unlock $100 million in safety net benefits over the course of 2 years.

Previously, at General Motors I supported the design and pilot launch of a new mobility service for gig workers.

I create impact by falling in love with the problem, consistently engaging others in my process, and using design to build a shared vision.

I thrive on teams where I collaborate across disciplines, listen to users, map systems, prototype using various methods, and weave everything together to form a compelling narrative and product.

I have been told I shine in the “messy middle” of problem spaces when I guide teams through moments of exploration, iteration, and convergence.

I received a Masters in Interaction Design from Carnegie Mellon University, where I was named Class Speaker and Chair of Graduate Student Assembly. Prior, I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Urban Planning at Virginia Tech University.
